What's the fuss about?

Hi. I'm Krithi...

This blog and small business is a lil' showcase of mine that beholds so much zeal and wholeheartedness. My roots are deeply connected to India as I hail from a southern city in India called Hyderabad. Professionally, I'm a systems engineer focussed on improving safety processes for automotive electrical/electronic systems. No, that is not where I learned how to make body/hair care products. But I do have a deep, educated understanding of formulating these recipes and will take you through a short story.

Long ago, four friends decided to change their lifestyles into a better one; conscious living, respecting nature, and educating their peers topping the list. In the course of trying to achieve a zero-waste lifestyle and switching to eco-friendly alternatives, I scouted the world wide web and learned from the whirlpool of information available. I also put a tremendous amount of time into building a product that is ethical, sustainable, and earth-loving (of course the health of my customers is also top-notch). Finally, presenting to you...

*drum rolls please*

"For a better future, for you and me, Think Sustainability."

I started my blog @sustainable.hummingbird to document my lifestyle changes over to a plastic-free, zero-waste, and plant-based one. This blog also includes the other skill I possess - singing. Yes. You heard that right. Go check it out on IG when you have some time. But this blog is primarily built to document and showcase my journey, hoping to inspire many others to do the same. I've always dreamt of making a product but never guessed I could make this all work so quickly. Everything fell in place organically, as I already had the fervor and dedication.
My biggest inspiration - my mum. Growing up, she is someone I've seen not using plastic, following sustainable practices, using nothing but natural ingredients in everything we eat and use, re-using everything to the last bit of it, composting, and lots more. I lived far from home for almost 10 years now and I've picked up some plastic-y habits. When I re-discovered all about zero-waste few years back, I started following zero-waste bloggers through which I've learnt even more about the dark side of plastic pollution, environment abuse and toxic chemicals. That is a prime reason why the products I have on this website are made with utmost care using natural ingredients and the highest quality supplies.

Zilch means zero and here I refer Zilch to zero-waste. Apothecary is a place where goods are sold. So the intention behind my small business is to establish all sustainable and zero-waste products. Zilch Apothecary aims at promoting and producing zero waste products. My current products range in body care/hair care.

Concept of logo design - The idea behind ZA and the arrow moving from 'Z' to 'A' symbolizes the 3 'Rs' of leading a sustainable lifestyle. The 3 R(s) being Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. So my depiction of the logo here is to show that every product and packaging you recieve or get from Zilch Apothecary promises to be all natural and recyclable/biodegradable/compostable. Small analogy - English alphabets goes from A->Z but ZA for us implies wealth from waste. Let's take an Orange for example. After we finish up eating an orange, we tend to throw away the peel (assuming it to be a 'Z' or end stage. I took the effort to dry up the same orange peel, make powder of it and end up using the same in one of my products. Taking a notch higher, giving it a new purpose of transforming from 'Z' to 'A' stage.

Product description - These handcrafted beauties are made with organic oils and scented with only essential oils. They are free from synthetic fragrances, palm oil, sodium laurel sulfate, parabens, phthalates, petroleum by-products, and artificial colorings/preservatives. All products are made in small batches with lots of love to ensure the highest level of quality. All products are packaged in glass jars with metal lids, biodegradable cardboard, and metal tins, seed paper wrappers, and brown paper all of which can be reused, composted or recycled.

Are you ready to give your skin the possibility to feel the way nature intended to? If yes, I'd say you won't regret it!

As the company grows, I hope to use this platform for good and I intend to make donations to organizations that help protect/support people and the planet.
